We had a fantastic dinner at Vic's on the River last night. My friend and I split an entree and appetizer and the kitchen split them for us in separate plates. There was a good piano player. Views were fantastic! We walked down the stairs to enter from River Street and then had to take the elevator - if you enter from Bay/Factor's Walk you walk directly into the dining room, save yourself some steps!

My wife ordered the fillet... And it was the most tender outstanding fillet I have eaten. Certainly on the top two. It was served with a reduced sauce... And I'm not a fan of putting sauce on any good steak... But it really worked. I ordered the scallops... They were grilled perfectly... The spinach salad was very good... And the peach trio for dessert... It was OK. overall... Fantastic evening... Great service. Highly recommend this establishment.

* Price: $15-16 per main Entrées with large portions. + stars. * Ambiance: beautiful dining room with modern feels but still keeping some old features. Cute outdoor dining area and beautiful view of the river, especially sunset. Fine dining with white table cloths and chandelier but casual atmosphere. There is no dress code required here. 5 stars. * Location: on the river walk. Street parking, paid parking as well as garage parking across the street. 5 stars. * Meals: for lunch menu only, seafood new American with southern flares. Pretty good and large portions. 4 stars. * Service: pleasant and friendly. There are training staff but they are trying hard. Professional dressed. 4 stars. We came here for lunch. The restaurant is on the second floor. If you enter from the front door on the E Bay street, then you will get inside of the Vics on River restaurant. If entering from the river walk, then walk inside of Vic's Cafe and take elevator to restaurant. The sister restaurant is Vic's River Grill, a few doors away. From what I can gather, Vic's on River is a bit fancier dining room and has more variety options. The building was built in 1858 by a famous architect John Noris. During the Civil War, general Sherman's officers were using the building for planning and housing. The place was acquired by Dr. Victor and Bill Hall opened the restaurant. Our table was on the second floor and looking out to the river. Since it is very hot outside, no one was at outdoor space. Appetizers: char grilled octopus, $15. The octopus was perfectly cooked, very tendered, and well flavored with olive oil and balsamic syrup, light garlic flavor. Very yummy! Entrees: Shrimp and grits ($16), chicken salad with Naan ($15), and 8 oz beef burger ($18). Half a dozen good size shrimps well cooked in grits, smooth and buttery. The beef burger is so good. Beef was very moist and tender, so savory with sautee mushroom and cameralized onion. Chicken salad is good but forgettable. Overall, it is a good place to have lunch or dinner. Casual atmosphere but fine dining experience.

My husband and I visited Vic's yesterday and let me tell you Vic's did NOT disappoint! We were seated in a quiet corner with a window overlooking the river. It was so beautiful. Starting with a delicious "painkiller" cocktail, we ordered the crab cake and octopus appetizers. The perfectly seasoned crab cake is ALL CRAB no fillers and the octopus was simply mouth watering! Our entrees were the short rib sandwich and the scallops on a bed of vegetable couscous. Everything was so delicious and reasonably priced with our bill coming to just under $100, including soft drinks! What a small price to pay for such a pleasant experience! We are locals but our experience felt like we were royals!

Okay, this was our favorite restaurant while visiting Savannah. We loved the crab cakes!! The filet was delicious. The fried green tomatoes were so good, but a little on the cold side when we received them. We still ate them regardless because they had great flavor, but back to the crab cakes! Omg, best I've ever had, SO FULL of crab. I'd recommend making a reservation no matter when you go. It's highly recommended about a week in advance.

To get to Vic's, you can either enter from street level OR if you are on the river level, enter Vic's Coffee, and then take the elevator to the 4th floor. The restaurant has a very upscale elegant atmosphere. Our server was very friendly. We ordered some soups and the shrimp and grits. The French Onion was too salty, and the grits, while cooked well, needed a bit more flavor. For dessert we had the peach trio. The ice cream was good, but the bread pudding was very dry. I had higher hopes for this restaurant. While the atmosphere was inviting, I wasn't overly impressed with the food.

Good food with some misses. Great location. Great service. I started with the She-Crab soup that I read on a blog was the best in town. It was good, but didn't blow me away. Maybe I should have tried the French Onion soup. The biscuits were very good, fluffy and crisp. The special I ordered was pan-seared swordfish with asparagus, fries shrimp, and crab risotto. The risotto was clumpy and had crab flavor, but no pieces of crab, so likely cooked with some crab stock. Pieces of crab may have helped me overlook the poor texture of the risotto. The shrimp was very good. Breaded and tails were left on. I cut the tails off. When breading shrimp, go ahead and cut the tails off. Swordfish had great seasoning and was only a little overcooked, although one side was burned, but I was able to scrape it off. I enjoyed my Drunken Pecan cocktail, which is essentially a bourbon old fashioned sweet with pecan liqueur added. My server, Carrie, was exceptional! With all the great places to eat in Savannah, I was disappointed I chose Vic's on the River and will miss out on another potentially greater place. Good, but not worth rushing to.

My wife and I were in Savannah and she had a work meeting she had to call into, so I was on my own for lunch. A friend had recommended Vic's and I am glad he did! It is right on the river, but not really a great view inside, but it was basically just me at the bar and I ordered an IPA and I have never tried a flounder po' boy before, so I felt like being adventurous. The IPA hit the spot on a warmish day after lots of walking and my server was super nice and pretty fast with everything. I ordered collard greens as my said and with all the collard greens I got in Savannah, they were really good. The po' boy flounder was perfectly fries and basically a very non-fishy tasting white sauce. Along with the lettuce and tomato and awesome bread, with the sauce, it was an awesome and filling sandwich. I had one more IPA and told my wife about my fantastic southern lunch on the river.
